Hey, I’m Charlie
Hey there! I’m Charlie and this is Charlie on Travel, a sustainable and slow travel blog written by me and my life and travel companion, Luke (I’d be lost without him). We’re slow travellers, nature lovers, vegetarians, green advocates, sustainability enthusiasts and house sitters.
For us, travel more than just a holiday, it’s a lifestyle choice. We travel slowly and house sit when we can so that we can experience local life in different countries, get off-the-beaten path, explore lesser known towns and neighbourhoods, eat where the locals eat and travel in a way which is as sustainable as possible.
Charlie on Travel is a blog about slow and sustainable travel. We’re Charlie and Luke - and we have been travelling the world for 5 years!
We want to help you learn to travel and enjoy new countries too. We’re slow travellers, which means we travel slowly. We love to immerse ourselves in local life, learn about local culture and meet local people. There’s no need to rush around the world. Get to know the places where you are and appreciate the world around you!
We share simple ways to travel, including advice on how to become a house sitter and slow traveller, eating local and vegetarian, and making responsible travel choices.
In 2012 I moved to Taiwan and I became a teacher. I started my first travel blog, Strangers in Taiwan, and wrote about expat life and teaching in Taiwan. Living in Taiwan was an incredible learning experience for me. My time in Taiwan is what made me realize what I wanted to be in the long-term, a slow traveller. When I left, that’s what I did.
The responsible tourism sector is ripe for development and it’s the most important sector there is. If you’re a tourism board or city council looking to promote responsible tourism in your country or city, I would be interested in working together and attending press trips to promote travel that supports local communities, preserves culture and heritage, protects the environment and conserves wildlife.
